Choosing where to stay in Benasque is not only about price. The area changes the trip: dining on foot, skiing in Cerler, starting routes early or travelling with children need different priorities.
Centre, Cerler, Anciles, Eriste, Sahún, Distances
The centre is the most flexible option: restaurants, bakeries, mountain shops, a supermarket, a pharmacy and the riverside walk are all a few minutes on foot from the town-hall area. It works well for first visits, short breaks, couples and families who want to eat and walk without using the car. It is also the most comfortable base for starting routes early and returning to the village in the afternoon.
It helps to tell Cerler village (around 1,500 m, 10 minutes by car from Benasque) apart from the ski resort. Staying up there makes sense if the trip revolves around skiing and you want to minimise transfers, or if you want views and a high-village feel. In exchange there are fewer services, less choice of restaurants and more reliance on the car to get down to the valley.
The valley villages offer calm and traditional architecture. Anciles, about 2 km from Benasque, is one of the best-preserved medieval hamlets in Aragón and lets you be very close to town in quiet surroundings. Eriste (about 3 km) is handy for Linsoles and for access towards Espigantosa and the Ángel Orús refuge. Sahún (about 5-6 km) and the sunny side offer views and a slower pace, in exchange for depending on the car for almost everything.
From Benasque, the Cerler resort is about 6 km (10-15 minutes), Llanos del Hospital about 13 km along the A-139, and Aigualluts or the Estós valley also start a few minutes away by car. Zaragoza is about 202 km (close to 2 h 45) and Lleida airport 116 km. There is no train: the nearest stations are Huesca and Lleida-Pirineus, both over 120 km away.
For a first trip, central Benasque is usually the safest choice. For a ski-focused trip, Cerler can pay off. For a quiet stay, the nearby villages work well. With children or mixed-pace groups, prioritise having services close, a plan B to hand and not depending on the car day to day.
On long weekends, in August and on snowy weekends, parking in central Benasque can be difficult. Accommodation with its own parking space solves that: you park on arrival and move around on foot for the whole stay. If your accommodation does not include one, check the park-and-walk options before entering the old town.
El Refugio de Benasque is next to the old town, with everything on foot, and includes a private parking space so you do not depend on the car during your stay.
