Easy routes with a reward
Gorgas de Alba (a botanical trail with waterfalls, half a day) is one of the most rewarding to start with. The flat walks around Llanos del Hospital, 13 km from the village, work well with a pushchair or young children. A short version of Aigualluts from La Besurta is possible if access is open and the weather helps. In all of them, choose routes with shade, water, stops and an easy way back.
Water and stone villages
The Camino del Ésera links Benasque with Anciles (2 km), Eriste (3 km) and Sahún (5-6 km) along the river: flat, with meadows and bridges, ideal on foot or by bike. Anciles is one of the best-preserved medieval hamlets in Aragón. These are short plans, perfect for an afternoon or a day when nobody feels like the mountains.
Snow with children
Winter does not have to mean alpine skiing only. Llanos del Hospital has sledging, snowshoeing and a snow area; Cerler has a beginners’ zone. What matters is checking cold, wind, spare clothes, tiredness and access, and not stretching the day out too much.
Practical advice
Plan less than you would without children, bring food, water, sunscreen, warm layers and spare clothes. Always have a short alternative. A route abandoned in time is not a failure: it is usually what saves the day. And in summer, an early start avoids heat and afternoon storms.
