Winter in Benasque is not only skiing. Cerler is the main draw, but the village, snow, food and quieter plans complete a strong winter break.

Cerler is the highest ski resort in the Aragonese Pyrenees: it runs from 1,500 m to the 2,630 m of the Gallinero peak, which gives it the biggest skiable vertical drop in the Pyrenees (about 1,130 m). The domain is around 77-80 km across roughly 68 runs (about 10 green, 18 blue, 25 red and 14 black). It is about 6 km from central Benasque, 10-15 minutes by car. Sleeping in central Benasque combines ski days with village life. Spend the day on the snow and return in the afternoon to restaurants, shops, old-town walks and dinner away from the resort. On heavy-snow days you should carry chains for the climb up to Cerler.
About 13 km from Benasque along the A-139 is the Llanos del Hospital nordic area, between 1,750 and 1,940 m: around 30 km of cross-country circuits, plus snowshoeing, sledging and winter walks when conditions allow. It is the winter gateway towards La Besurta and a perfect alternative for non-alpine skiers or for a quieter day.
In mixed groups, not everyone wants to spend the whole day on the slopes. Benasque works well for that because it allows another trip in parallel: old-town walks, Cerler village, slow meals, mountain shops, local produce, snow photography and short afternoon plans.
Anciles, Eriste, Cerler and Benasque itself are useful when the weather is not ideal. A winter break can include restaurants, cafés, local shopping, photography, small cultural visits and the seasonal agenda. Markets, Christmas plans or local events should always be checked in the updated local agenda.
Snow changes the mountains. Beyond sunshine, consider ice, wind, visibility, snow level, roads and warnings. Outside controlled areas, current avalanche information and proper equipment are essential. Before driving, check road conditions and the AEMET warnings.
El Refugio de Benasque is in the village centre, a few minutes by car from Cerler, and includes a private parking space so you do not fight for parking in the snow season.
